About Us
Meet Shelly and Dana
Sew Downtown is the realization of a lifelong dream shared by mother and daughter, Shelly and Dana. Their passion for sewing began at an early age and has grown into a place where creativity, learning, and community come together every day.
Dana's love of sewing started with a simple goal—to make sure her dolls were the best dressed on the block! Designing tiny wardrobes sparked a lifelong interest in garment sewing and fashion.
Shelly discovered sewing through 4-H, where she spent eight years developing her skills and competing at the Weld County Fair. Those early experiences taught her not only how to sew, but also the value of craftsmanship, creativity, and sharing what you've learned with others.
Before opening Sew Downtown, Shelly and Dana owned and operated a successful window covering business. While they enjoyed helping customers create beautiful homes, they realized their true passion was sewing. They dreamed of creating a place where sewists of every skill level could find quality products, learn new techniques, and be inspired to create.
That dream became a reality in 2011 when Sew Downtown opened its doors in historic downtown Greeley, Colorado.
What began as a quilting shop has grown into a full-service sewing destination. Today, you'll find an ever-growing selection of quilting cottons, garment fabrics, notions, patterns, embroidery supplies, and carefully chosen products for every type of maker. Whether you're piecing your first quilt, sewing a custom wardrobe, creating home décor, or exploring machine embroidery, we're here to help you succeed.
As an authorized Baby Lock dealer, we're proud to offer innovative sewing, quilting, embroidery, and serger machines backed by the education and support our customers deserve. We also provide sewing machine maintenance and repair, helping keep your favorite machines stitching for years to come.
Our family has grown right alongside the business. Shelly's son, Brennan—Dana's grandson—has become an integral part of the Sew Downtown family as our sewing machine technician. Trained by his grandfather, who faithfully serviced machines for many years, Brennan continues that tradition of expert care and exceptional customer service. Whether it's routine maintenance or a major repair, our customers know their machines are in capable hands.
Education has always been at the heart of Sew Downtown. From beginner classes and quilting techniques to embroidery projects, specialty events, and block-of-the-month programs, we love helping people build confidence and discover new creative possibilities. Watching someone complete a project they never thought possible is one of our greatest joys.
More than anything, Sew Downtown is about community. Our classroom is filled with laughter, encouragement, shared ideas, and lasting friendships. Whether you're a lifelong quilter, an avid garment maker, an embroidery enthusiast, or just threading a needle for the first time, you'll always find a welcoming place here.
At Sew Downtown, we believe sewing is more than a hobby—it's a way to express creativity, preserve traditions, make meaningful gifts, and connect with others. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your creative journey. We can't wait to help you create your next project.
