541 – String Bag Pattern
Multi-Sized Pattern: Mini, Small, Medium
Skill Level: 1, Quick & Easy (without pockets); 2, Easy (with pockets)
This traditional folk design features easy construction and the convenience of zippered pockets. Sew it up from heavier fabric for a pack look or make it from a lighter fabric for a bag in the folk craft tradition. This pattern has two versions: center pull straps (for lighter weight fabrics) or side pull straps. Add optional outer and inner zipper pockets and a D-ring key holder to organize all your extras.
Sizes:
Mini: 13h x 11w
Small: 14-3/4h x 13-1/4w
Medium: 17h x 14-3/4w
Fabric Suggestions:
Outer Fabric, Heavy: Waterproof nylon pack cloth, canvas, denim, velvet, OR
Outer Fabric, Light: Coated nylon ripstop, supplex, cotton, laminated cotton or satin.
Lining: Hi-count nylon taffeta, laminated cotton, or any other lightweight woven fabric.
Notions:
1/2 (13mm) Webbing or Ribbon Straps - Center Pull Version: 1-7/8 yd (1.7m) to 2-3/8 yd (2.2m); Side Pull Version: 3-1/4 yd (3m) to 4 yd (3.7m)
Thread, two #4 coil zipper pulls, #4 coil zipper in 5/8 yd (.57m) for mini or 3/4 yd (.7m) for small or 7/8 yd (.8m) for medium.
Optional Key Holder: one 1/2 (1.2cm) D-ring or Tri-ring.
